Through its Emmy Noether Programme, the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) helps outstanding young researchers in all subject areas qualify as professors - without the need for the usual postdoctoral thesis qualification (“Habilitation” in Germany): stipend-holders head their own research group and assume teaching duties.
